This one is really cheap. Does your partner complain a lot about something? Do they hate to wash the toilets or take out the trash? Do they hate cleaning up after dinner? Listen for a few days and you can easily find a few things that will help you to better understand your partner. Once you understand what they don’t like or what they are craving, you can more easily satisfy those feelings. If I had someone helping me with the dishes everyday, I would be much happier. I always put the dishes off as long as I can, because they bug me. What can you do to make life happier around your home?
Communication is key in a marriage. How do you talk to your partner? Do you constantly nag or do you have positive comments? Try naming three things each day that your partner has done really well that you are thankful for. Try to do this for as long as you can. Habits can take 27 days to form. Try every night before or at dinner to list three positive things about your partner and see how things change.
“The object of love is not getting something you want but doing something for the well-being of the one you love. It is a fact, however, that when we receive affirming words we are far more likely to be motivated to reciprocate.” (The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman)
Do you know what your partners favorites are? Favorite food, flowers, color, movie, book, past-time, sport, etc… Make a list and take the time and find out what they LOVE. Use the list to make their every-day life more enjoyable.
This one is specifically for the guys out there because it will not work the other way around. Guys, take you lover out to see a romantic movie. She will be pleasantly surprised that you are sensitive and willing enough to watch a mushy film with her. Make sure you do not complain or badmouth the movie because it will turn her off.
